First Day at Physical Therapy

I went to my first physical therapy session today. Found out that I have already reached the goal that the doctor had set for me to achieve by the end of a month. So the therapist gave me some exercises and encouraged me to slowly continue strengthening and flexing my repaired knee so that I can begin putting some weight on it. She also gave me some suggestions on how to take care of my left knee/leg that is doing all of the work right now. I will continue this regimen until I see my doctor in a couple of weeks. So PT twice a week doesn't look too painful.

First Check-up after Surgery

Had my first check-up since surgery with the orthopedic surgeon today. All is progressing well and he wants me to stay off the leg for another three weeks. So I will remain in the wheel chair and convalesce at St. Clement Friary. After one week I am to start "passive therapy" (??). I'll make arrangements for that tomorrow.

Thanks for your prayers and best wishes.

Fourth Day after Surgery

This is the fourth day since surgery and I am doing very, very well, I am getting around in a wheel chair and crutches so I do not have to put any weight on the injured leg. I have moved into one of our large friaries where the rooms are ADA compliant and an elevator is easily accessible. I am in little or no pain but I am keeping up with the meds the doctor prescribed. So all is well. I see the doctor on Wednesday for my first check up and decisions about therapy.

So for now it's pray, read, relax, and heal. Not a bad life. :-)

Nasty Fall Leads to Knee Surgery

Sunday, returning from the Come and See weekend, I tripped coming out of the garage and landed hard on my knees. I could not get up or move my right leg. Providentially our neighbor came out of his house moments later and I called to him for help. He got me into the house where we called the paramedics who took me to Good Samaritan Hospital.

Tuesday I visited with a orthopedic surgeon who, after having me do an MRI, determined that I need surgery to repair a torn quadriceps. The fate-full day will be Tuesday, January 14 at Mercy West hospital here in Cincinnati.

Prayer will be much appreciated. :-)

Three make a "Come and See" weekend

GroupCarlo Shivel (18) of London, KY; John Scafidi (35) of Pensacola, FL; and Patrick Kohl (19) of Hamilton, OH joined the Postulants and Friars of St. Anthony Friary in Cincinnati, OH for a Come and See weekend January 3-5, 2014. Carlo and Patrick are presently enrolled in Morehead and Miami of Ohio Universities. John is engaged in volunteer work.

This was the third Come and See weekend in this academic year. We have two more planned before June. God is blessing us with some good prospectives. Please join us in praying for their discernment of God's call in their lives.
