Friar Don Miller. OFM
I am a Franciscan priest. I spent my early years of ministry in New Mexico working among the Pueblo Native Americans and the Hispanics. In 1978 I began my years in academics working as a chaplain, faculty member, and administrator at various universities in the southwest and the midwest. I taught various course in theology, especially in my area of specialty which is moral theology. I have been the Vocation Director for the Province of Saint John the Baptist since 2003.

"Mystery photographer" revealed--maybe

I had mentioned when I posted the picture of our men in formation that I did not know who took the picture; just that I had received it from our Provincial Minister, Fr. Jeffrey Scheeler, O.F.M. Well, Fr. Jeff wrote:

I believe it was Colin King's sister who took the picture. They came for Mass at St. Anthony since Colin was in town.

Mystery solved and due credit given. :-)

Four Attend a "Come and See"

Group Four young men joined us this past weekend at St. Anthony Friary in Cincinnati to participate in the second Come and See of this academic year. They are Jakob Ihli from Lake Charles, LA; John Michels for Sioux Falls, SD; Michael Latawiec from Wyoming, MN; and Joshua Morgan from Batavia, OH.

We usually have Come and See weekends in September and November but this year, due to the number of prospectives wanting to make a weekend, we added this one in October. The next will be November 12-14, 2010.

The Lord continues to answer our prayers and send us generous young men willing to looking into the possibility of having a vocation to the Religious Life.

Formation Gathering

Jeff and all in formation except Richard Once a year all of our young men in formation gather together for a weekend of getting to know one another and discussion of issues. Often the newest Postulants may have never met th e men in Temporary Vows.

This year the group met in Cincinnati this past weekend. Richard Goodin, O.F.M., the senior of the group met via telephone since he is presently doing a year in Jamaica.

Pictured at the right are our Provincial Minister, Fr, Jeffrey Scheeler, O.F.M., and the thirteen men in formation.

Fr. Jeff sent me the picture and I do not know who took it.

Stan offers Feast Day Wish

Stan writes:

Fr. Don: To you, your confreres in SJB Province, the perspectives and our sisters and brothers in the three Orders of St. Francis, I wish all a happy and blessed feast day! You are being remembered in prayer; may we all be instruments of peace and share the bread of our lives in simplicity and joy!

Video of the "Spirit of Assisi Concert Tour"

Here is a video of last night's Transitus  service held at St. Anthony Friary in Cincinnati.

Video of the "Spirit of Assisi Concert Tour"

Bro. Al Mascia has teamed up with Maggid (Hebrew for "Troubadour") to perform a series of concert for peace leading up to the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Assisi gathering of World Leaders of Religion. You may recall that Pope John Paul II invited the leaders to Assisi for prayer and reflection. Last night the duo performed at St. Clement Church here in Cincinnati and I edited some video I shot. It is now available below:

Vocation Work and Visits

Donald Miller OFM-2 I haven't died or left the office--I have just been very busy with a number of things. First among them is the Vocation Office. It is and has been wonderfully demanding the past few weeks. There is nothing that makes a Vocation Director happier than lots of contacts and visits with prospectives. So I have been traveling and visiting and have a few more trips planned before the end of the year. Also, we have added an extra Come and See weekend this month to relieve the load from the September and November weekends.

Second, I have been named a Trustee for Roger Bacon, our high school in Cincinnati. I'm not too sure what that is going to entail, but I do know that I am chair of the Mission Enhancement Committee and will be getting busy with that next week.

Third, our province will be conducting a Chapter in May 2011 and I am the Executive Secretary for that. So the Chapter Planning Committee is revving up for that.

So, lots of vocation work and planning. That's what my life is all about these days--and I am enjoying all of it. :-)

And, of course, this weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of Saint Francis so there is some relaxing to do as well. More on that later.
