Last evening Fr. Greg Friedman, O.F.M. and I attended the graduation ceremonies for Badin High School at Saint Maximilian Kolby Catholic Church on the north side of Cincinnati. Jonathan Beer, one of the graduates, won the Archbishop Altar Award for his living and witnessing to his faith. There were only four special awards given at the ceremony.
Jonathan made the September 2008 Come and See weekend and is planning on joining us in 2010. In the meantime he plans to begin his college studies.
Congratulations to Jonathan and his classmates.
Every year we Franciscans get together and celebrate the jubilees of the Friars who have been professed and/or ordained for 25, 50, 60, and 65 and more years. This year we are blessed with Fr. Noel William, O.F.M. who is celebrating the75th anniversary of his First Profession of Vows.
Pictured at the right is Fr. Noel with Friar Clifford Hennings, O.F.M., our youngest novice, at the celebration of the150th Anniversary of our province and the 800th of our Way of Life which was held in Cincinnati of April 16. Fr. Noel has been a professed Franciscan for half as long as our province has existed.
We will celebrate the jubilees this year on Memorial Day. And, by the way, Friar Clifford and his novice classmates will make their First Profession of Vows on June 15 at the Novitiate in Cedar Lake, IN.
This past weekend, Gabriel Silveira joined the Friars of Saint Anthony Friary in Cincinnati and the Vocation Team for a Come and See weekend. This was the last such weekend for this academic year. Five others are planned for next year beginning in September.
Gabriel is presently from Houston Texas. He was born and spent his early years in Brazil coming to the United States in 1990.
Should Gabriel join our community he will join three others who are already approved for the Postulancy class of 2009 which begins July 1, 2009. Our present Postulants are preparing to end their first year of formation May 31. They will then take a vacation before entering the Novitiate June 24th. The present novices will make their First Profession of Vows on June 15.
